LoL Free Champion Rotation This Week
The constant changes in League of Legends make the game quite confusing at times. The addition of champions each year makes the oversight of 150 champs almost impossible. Thankfully, Riot introduced the weekly champion rotation, which allows players to test out the champions for free.
Riot Games loans out around 10% of playable champions for free each week. This keeps League of Legends interesting and gives players the opportunity to experiment. Once you hit level 11, you gain access to the free champion rotation. The free champion rotation switches up every single Tuesday, so be prepared to try some new stuff on Summoner's Rift weekly.
Free Champion Rotation: 26 July – 02 August
These are the champions that are part of this week's free champion rotation:

- Aurelion Sol
- Blitzcrank
- Cassiopeia
- Corki
- Fiora
- Hecarim
- Jayce
- Katarina
- Master Yi
- Nilah
- Pyke
- Samira
- Seraphine
- Shen
- Warwick
Compared to the lackluster selection of last week, this week looks incredible. There are a lot of great champions, and every lane got some very good choices. Obviously, the highlight will be the newest champion, Nilah.
Riot always makes the newest champion free to play a couple of weeks after their release, so people can give the champion a try. If you weren't sure whether to buy her or not, this is the perfect chance to take her out for a test drive. She fits perfectly into the bot lane without being useless or op, so it seems her release is going as smooth as Renata's, which is a good sign.
Who is the best top laner in this free champion rotation, you might ask? That would be Shen. He is a great skirmishing top laner that is incredible at split pushing because of his ulti. You can use his ulti to gank other lanes or just help protect a teammate, but aside from that, Shen is actually quite fun to play, which is a rare feature for a tank top laner. He has a great early game, and offers some outplay potential. Just give him a try, you'll love him.
If you're looking for a good jungler, then you have to go with the new and improved Master Yi who recently got a small overhaul to some of his abilities, and since then, he as completely taken over the jungle meta. Obviously, he is going to be a lot more effective in lower elo, but even in some of the higher elo regions, he is also doing surprisingly well. I knew giving him more range was going to be a mistake.
As for mid-lane picks in this free champion rotation, you should pick Katarina. She is a super high skill champion, but her carry and snowball potential is unlike any other. If you manage to pick up a kill or to in the early game, you'll literally be unstoppable in the mid game. Kat can basically one shot everyone, and let's just say, it will rain pentakills. She is one of the few assassins that is playable, so if you're an assassin fan, she should be your go-to pick.
For you ADC mains, it's going to be Nilah, of course. The new bot laner was a tad op when she launched, but after a small adjustment, she seems to have settled pretty well in the bot lane meta. Of course, she doesn't have to deal with Seraphine ADC anymore, which would be hell for her. Nilah is a unique champion, and if you're looking for something new in the ADC department, she is perfect.
Finally, we get to the support role and in this free champion rotation, you should go for Blitzcrank or Seraphine. The nerfs to Seraphine were mainly aimed at her as an ADC, but she is still a great support. She can poke like crazy, has a shield and tons of cc, basically all you want in an enchanter support. If you're more of a tank support type player, then Blitzcrank is a solid choice. His hook can make or break team fights, and if you pair him with an early game ADC like Draven, you can snowball games like crazy.
